Foam Fire Suppression System
Fixed foam protection enquiries for specified flammable-liquid and industrial fuel hazards.
Foam Fire Suppression System: purpose and application
A fixed foam system combines a compatible concentrate, proportioning arrangement and discharge devices. It can be used for selected flammable-liquid hazards where the foam formulation and design are appropriate. Hydrocarbon fuels and water-miscible solvents may need different products. A portable foam extinguisher does not define the design requirements of a tank, loading or process installation.
Selection and specification
Identify the fuel, area, containment, available water and environmental constraints. Confirm concentrate type, concentration, proportioning range and compatibility with the discharge hardware. Ask for current technical and safety data, including whether the proposed foam contains fluorinated substances. Changing concentrate can require more than flushing a storage tank; system performance needs review.
Installation, inspection and limitations
Plan controlled testing and collection of foam solution. Routine discharge to drains is inappropriate. Inspection should address concentrate condition, proportioner settings, valves, strainers and discharge paths. The maintenance scope and disposal arrangements should be explicit so functional testing does not introduce an unmanaged contamination problem.
What to confirm before ordering
- 01Fuel type and protected area
- 02Concentrate and proportioner compatibility
- 03Water supply and discharge equipment
- 04Test collection and disposal plan
Common questions
Can any foam concentrate be used in an existing system?
No. Fuel compatibility, proportioning and equipment performance must be checked before changing foam type or formulation.
