Fire Safety Training
Site-focused staff training enquiries covering alarm response, evacuation and the limits of first-response equipment.
Fire Safety Training: purpose and application
Fire safety training should reflect the workplace, people and emergency arrangements. Staff need to recognise alarm signals, raise the alarm and follow evacuation instructions. Selected trained responders may need additional equipment familiarisation. General awareness training does not qualify someone to enter smoke, operate specialist suppression controls or carry out professional equipment servicing.
Selection and specification
Specify the audience, headcount, language, shift arrangements and learning objectives. Share the evacuation plan and installed equipment details. Agree whether the session includes awareness, extinguisher familiarisation, a drill or a separately controlled practical demonstration. Any live activity requires suitable facilities, supervision and an assessed procedure; it is not assumed to be part of every course.
Installation, inspection and limitations
Record attendance, topics and any issues identified during the exercise. Drills should be coordinated to avoid confusion and account for visitors or people needing assistance. Refresher needs depend on staff changes, site risks and project requirements. A participation record must describe the course actually delivered rather than imply an unrelated professional qualification.
