Breeching Inlet
Fire service inlet enquiries with the correct number of connections, check arrangement and system interface.
Breeching Inlet: purpose and application
A breeching inlet provides a planned external connection through which a fire service can supply an appropriate building system. It is not an ordinary water outlet. Its configuration and location must be coordinated with the riser design and the responding service requirements. Visibility, access and correct identification are essential to its intended use.
Selection and specification
Specify inlet count, connection type, body material, pressure rating and the downstream connection. Confirm caps, non-return arrangement, drain provision where required and any cabinet or signage. The selected fitting must be compatible with the actual responding equipment and the engineering design. Do not infer compatibility from nominal pipe size alone.
Installation, inspection and limitations
Inspect caps, seals, access, identification and signs of tampering or corrosion. Maintenance must preserve the correct direction of flow and the approved arrangement. Testing should follow the project procedure and account for system isolation, drainage and restoration. Changes to site access can make a correctly fitted inlet difficult for responders to reach.

Common questions
