Fire Alarm Interface Module: purpose and application
Fire alarm interface modules connect defined field inputs or outputs to the alarm system. Monitor, control, relay and isolator modules perform different jobs. An addressable module must communicate with the specified panel and protocol. A similar enclosure or matching wire count is not proof of functional compatibility.
Selection and specification
Identify the panel make, model and software requirements, then state the required input or output function. Confirm supervision, contact type, load rating, power requirements and any external supply. Interfaces with lifts, access control, smoke control or suppression need an agreed cause-and-effect schedule and coordination with the relevant equipment team.
Installation, inspection and limitations
Test the complete connected function rather than only the module indicator. Labelling and as-built records should identify the controlled equipment and circuit. Changes to programming or external plant can affect the safety sequence. Use qualified commissioning and manage temporary isolations so an interface is not left disabled after servicing.
